Summary

Van Avermaet was unable to defend his World Tour title, as he failed to take a single individual win – he was a part of three team time trial victories for the however – as he finished fifth in the points rankings. The rankings were topped for the first time by British rider Simon Yates, riding for the team, who amassed 3,072 points over the course of the season.
